Oftentimes, it can be challenging to know if you should rekey or replace your lock. You may have concerns about one over the other. That being said, the decision is ultimately up to you and what fits comfortably within your budget.
The process of rekeying is typically faster than replacing the whole lock. A locksmith is skilled in ordering and numerically changing the pins inside of a lock to a specific code. They then match your key(s) to the code they have set within your lock/ cylinder. If you are on a budget, this may be a pricey option if you need a lot of keys made. If you only need one or two keys made, then replacing the lock may be the more expensive option.
When choosing to replace your lock, there are different factors to consider. Of course, we have the obvious, the design factor. Is it pleasing to you? Does it match the style of your home? Most importantly, is the lock secure? Is it highly recommended because of its security? Now, of course, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a high-security lock, deadbolt, or a combination of the two, you will inevitably have to pay a little more.
We at NWI Locksmiths hope this has provided something to think about and hope this was at least somewhat informational. We welcome any questions or concerns about your locks.
